The Twins are like a high wall when viewed from Galehead
hut. They're isolated especially in winter when backcountry roads close. The ridge that
connects the two peaks is wooded and has a serene beauty.
THE TRAILHEADS
From the North they're usually climbed by the North Twin Trail over the north
summit to the North Twin Spur to South Twin. The trailhead is located on Haystack
Road which is closed in Winter.
In the winter, "You can park at the 7 Dwarfs Motel for $6, walk
up the balance of the road, make a right over the bridge following a snowmobile trail, take your next left.
Then you make a left on Haystack Road. From 7 Dwarfs it's a little over mile to the summer trailhead. Many times, there is
also a bushwhack which begins soon after you turn left after crossing the bridge. It follows and old trail along the stream and is a pleasant walk.
The North Twin trail has some nasty river crossings which can be bypassed by a short
bushwhack on the east side of Little River This is an easy bushwhack.
Others go up the Gale River Trail to Twinway Trail, GRT also has some challenging
crossings. The Trailhead is down Gale River Rd off RT-3 just south of
the Last Chance Cabins. This trail passes by Galehead Hut.along the trail, many choose
to bag Mt Galehead also which is only a half mile off the trail and relatively easy to climb. From Galehead Hut you begin the Twinway Trail which climbs steeply to the summit of South Twin.
