Tripyramid Range

Waterville Valley

Anne and Julie on North Tripyramid

The Tripyramids are a part of the Sandwich Range another area that new peakbaggers shug and say "well gotta do them" but when you hike over the three peaks you fall in love with them. Many people never revisit the area once the "48" are done but there are many other worthwhile peaks in the area, as well as some interesting sites like Big Pines.

THE TRAILHEADS

Livermore Trail right off Tripoli Road near the ski area is most popular, it leads to three different trails that you can climb. ♦South Tripyramid Slide Trail comes first as you walk the old Livermore road, it's a right turn. Soon after you reach the ♦North Tripyramid Slide Trail which in my opinion is the second steepest trail in the Whites. Most people ascend this way and then loop over the ridge and down the Southern Slide. The Northern Slide is STEEP AND ROUGH AND IT'S NOT ADVISABLE TO CLIMB IN WET WEATHER. ♦The Scaur Ridge Trail can be found past the North Slide on Livermore and it climbs more moderately to the steeper ♦Mt Tripyramid Trail and the North summit

♦Sabbaday Brook Trail is another way to the summit, it's Trailhead is on RT-112 the Kancamangus Highway. This has a bad water crossing at times.

♦Pine Bend Brook Trail can also be waterlogged at times and has some rough sections. The Trailhead is also on the Kanc, a little east of the Sabbaday Brook Trail.

THE MOUNTAINS

North Tripyramid 4,180'

There are no views from this summit but spectacular views from the Slide. Everyone should experience the NT Slide once in their lives, but not if you're afraid of heights.

Middle Tripyramid 4,140'

The Middle Peak is my favorite. I always stop there for lunch at a little perch with awesome views. I love the ridge between the three summits. Going to South Tripyramid (which doesn't count officially as a 4K) is also a nice walk in the woods. Going down the South slide is pretty straightforward and not bad at all. In summer you plunge-step through scree which is fun. Winter is a little more tricky and will require crampons.
