Rocky Branch Trailhead on RT-16

THE TRAILHEADS

On RT-16 south of Pinkham Notch is the Rocky Branch Trail. This climbs moderately up Engine Hill. At the height of land begins the infamous Engine Hill Bushwhack which travels the 3100 contour.

After the major stream-crossing (dangerous at high water) you come to a junction. Go right for the Isolation Trail. This is a muddy and often wet trail with several stream crossings. Near an area of many blowdowns (cleared) is the junction to Davis Path. Take a left to the summit.

Another popular route is Glen Boulder Trail to Davis Path. This begins at the parking lot for Glen Ellis Falls and climbs rather steeply to Glen Boulder. This is a beautiful area. Connect to Davis Path for the long descent down to Mount Isolation. Many do the loop, up Glen Boulder and out Rocky Branch. You will need to spot a car to do this loop.
